How The Tastings Work
Each month we choose a theme — sometimes a specific wine region, sometimes a broader stylistic idea. Ahead of each tasting, I’ll share simple guidance on what bottle to bring, like a particular grape, style, or type of wine that fits the theme. Everyone brings their own bottle, sourced wherever you normally shop . I’ll suggest styles to look for but don’t worry—there’s no single “right” choice.
You’re also welcome to join without a bottle at all. Tasting along is encouraged, but never required!
Each live tasting runs 60-75 minutes and is loosely structured in two parts: the first half is a fun, informal masterclass where I’ll walk through the month’s theme and give context, insight, and practical ways to think and talk about the wines.
The second half is where we taste together. Everyone brings their own bottle (or simply listens in), and we compare notes, share impressions, and practice describing what we’re experiencing. We’ll always leave time at the end for open Q&A.
Leading up to each tasting, additional context will unfold naturally through the weekly wine essays. This page will always have the practical details, so I recommend bookmarking it for easy reference.
Upcoming Tastings
This summer, we’re exploring wine through geography rather than strict country lines. Because the sea doesn’t care about borders.
Climate, trade routes, ingredients, culture, sunlight, salt air, and agricultural traditions have always flowed across these regions long before modern nation-states existed. And when you start tasting wines this way — through shared landscapes and coastlines rather than isolated countries — fascinating connections begin to emerge.
Over the next three months, we’ll move through three different iconic seas: the Mediterranean, the Adriatic, and the Aegean.
That means jumping from Provence to Liguria to Sardinia in a single evening. Comparing Friuli alongside Slovenia and Croatia. Exploring volcanic Greek islands next to wines from the Turkish coast.
It’s going to be a very fun, very summery way to explore wine — and a chance to connect regions that are rarely discussed together, despite sharing climate, history, and culinary traditions.
As always, I’ll send more detailed bottle guidance as each tasting approaches.
June 2026: THE MEDITERRANEAN
Thursday, June 4th, 6pm PST
This tasting will move through regions connected by the Mediterranean Sea—from southern France to coastal Italy and beyond—exploring how climate, cuisine, and culture create a shared sense of place across very different wines. We’ll discuss regions like Provence, Liguria, Corsica, Sardinia, and Côtes Catalanes, but for this tasting you’ll choose one of three wine paths:
Team Vermentino
Look for a Vermentino from Liguria, Sardinia, or Corsica. Think fishing villages, seaside cafés, boats bobbing in the harbor, grilled seafood, and salty air.
Team Rosé
Look for a rosé from Provence (though Corsican rosé is also absolutely welcome). Think the French Riviera: striped umbrellas, linen shirts, yacht spotting and sunshine.
Team Grenache
Look for a Grenache-based wine from Provence, Côtes Catalanes, Sardinia (where the local name for Grenache is Cannonau). Think hilltop villages, wood-fired cooking, wild herbs, and rugged landscapes.
Of course, you’re welcome to bring another Mediterranean wine if something catches your eye. These three paths simply give us a common point of reference so we can compare notes and experiences throughout the evening.
Bonus points for Mediterranean-inspired snacks, vacation stories, and dressing as though you’re joining us from a seaside terrace rather than your living room.
July 2026: THE ADRIATIC
Thursday, July 2nd, 6pm PST
The Adriatic is one of the most exciting and underrated wine landscapes in Europe.
This tasting explores the wines surrounding the Adriatic Sea, where Alpine influence collides with Mediterranean warmth and centuries of cultural exchange have created wildly distinctive wines.
We’ll discuss Friuli, Romagna, Slovenia, Croatia, and neighboring coastal regions — from crisp alpine whites to salty skin-contact wines and vibrant coastal reds.
August 2026: THE AEGEAN
Thursday, August 6th, 6pm PST
Volcanic islands, blazing sun, ancient vines, wind, salt, and some of the oldest winemaking traditions on earth.
For August, we’ll head to the Aegean Sea and explore wines from the Greek islands as well as the Turkish coast. Expect mineral-driven whites, savory herbs, bright acidity, volcanic soils, and wines built for summer food.
Next Quarter’s Tastings Will be Announced Soon.
